New Polio Vaccine More Effective

Polio is an infectious disease that has no solution because it has to do with disease eradication polio vaccination. When all the children already have immunity, then they will not be infected with polio and the chain of transmission will be interrupted.

Recent research says that scientists have discovered a new polio vaccine and has been proven to provide more effective protection than polio vaccine that has been there. New polio vaccine has now been used in Afghanistan, India and Nigeria. Scientists believe this new vaccine could eradicate polio.

The disease is caused by three types of polio polivirus, namely type 1, type 2 and type 3. Until now, the vaccine given to children are targeted against all three types of viruses or only one of them. Polivirus type 1 is the most virulent and often causes outbreaks. While type 2 is the most benign.

Polio is caused by type 2 polivirus last time recorded in India in 1999 so it is now necessary vaccines that are able to eliminate two other virus types.

In a study conducted in India, experts compare this latest polio vaccine with the old vaccine that is administered orally. Approximately 830 newborns get a new polio vaccine or vaccine old version in two doses, one dose shortly after birth and another dose when they were aged 30 days.

The baby’s blood sample was taken before immunization and after immunization to measure the resulting increase in antibody immunity system against polio (seroconversion). The result, this new vaccine provides 30 percent more effective protection against polio vaccines than old version.

Clinical signs of poliomyelitis in humans is unclear because the disease has been known since 4000 BC. In the acute stage, symptoms are increased body temperature sometimes accompanied by headache and vomiting. Paralysis can occur within a week of illness onset.
